What material is best for your flat or low pitch roof?
Beginning in the 1950’s a new architectural style began incorporating flat and low
pitched roofs into their designs. Various tar, and bituminous asphalt products were
employed on these flat roofs.
These products including torch down roofing generally have a short life span and may employ potentially dangerous usage of an open flame during the application process.
Fortunately today there are some fantastic alternatives to asphalt based roofing materials.
Alternatives to Torch down
The most superior flat and low slope membrane is PVC roofing (polyvinyl chloride). PVC by manufacturers such as Weatherbond offer lifetime warranties. Compare that to 10-12 year warranties for torch down. And unlike torch down, PVC is warrantied to withstand ponding water. Not all PVC roofing is created equal however. We have carefully selected PVC manufactured by Weatherbond. Weatherbond is the only manufacturers of PVC and TPO that offers a limited lifetime warranty on for residential application. John Michael Roofing is proud to be an approved contractor with Weatherbond. TPO (thermoplastic olefin) may be another alternative for those looking for a less expensive material compared to PVC. In addition PVC and TPO offers UV protection and greater energy efficiency. These are some of the reasons we use Weatherbond PVC and TPO almost exclusively on flat and low slope roofs.
